Samudai means ‘a community’ and that is where the heart of our team lies. We are a team of ‘cryptonites’ who call ourselves co-builders of the DAO future. It all started when we decided to build tools for the creator economy in 2020. After multiple iterations, countless clean slates, and hours of conversations with the team and the Web3 ecosystem, we built Samudai.
We started with Retroactive Rewards, which we launched at ETH Denver 2022 with Collab.Land. There was no way to reward people for their time spent in generating meaningful engagement in the community and hence Retroactive Rewards. It was a way of incentivising people based on their social contributions, which eventually forms a key component in the base layer of vote delegation and governance, the foundation of DAOs.
But we always felt that we’re just scratching the surface and there’s more to the problem. The problem of rewards was directly linked with keeping track of the holistic profile of a contributor, starting from their behaviour in the community to their performance on their assigned projects. The entire system of “DAO Management” was broken. The more experienced DAOs had their own systems in place, but those were not scalable for the industry as a whole. This also brought in the problem of lack of standardization from the contributor’s perspective, making it difficult for the next million users to join the Web3 bandwagon.
We started diving deep in the space to look for potential solutions in the DAO space, we realised that although there were tools available, DAOs wouldn’t use them because no one asked them what the problem truly is. After getting on calls with multiple DAO operators we found that there was no layer of interoperability available in the industry which would bring all the contributions, operations and actionables together while providing superior UX. There wasn’t a stack which could enable DAOs to operate at scale as DAOs would go global, seeing the opportunity what you see today, Samudai was created.
In June 2022, we were able to raise our $2.5M Pre-Seed funding from marquee investors and were fortunate to have a heavily oversubscribed round. We are truly grateful for their support throughout this journey, and we believe that this is just the beginning!
